Welcome Grammy!

At the beginning of December we had the pleasure of welcoming Dusty's mom for a visit to Germany. She kindly (and bravely) accepted our request to take care of the kids while Dusty and I went on a cruise. She was able to arrive a couple of days before we left, so we got to have a bit of fun before we took off. The kids hadn't seen her since April, so it was definitely a warm welcome. We were waiting at the arrivals gate, searching and searching, when all of a sudden she came up behind us!Photobucket

Emmett was still sporting his black eye. Tough guy.

Grammy flew into the Munich airport, and right after we loaded into the car we went to the Christmas Market downtown. I can only imagine how tired she must have been after the long trip, but she was up for an adventure. We made our way to the center of town (Marienplatz) where the market was located. After walking around a bit we staked out our spots for the famous Glockenspiel show on the top of the hour.

These booths with the treats are always so tempting for kids.

The Glockenspiel is pretty fun. First it acts out a marriage scene, and afterward there is a jousting match in their honor. Bavaria vs.Lothringen. Bavaria wins every time. Naturally. I really enjoyed watching all the moving characters and listening to the music. It's neat to think how many times the clock has put on that little performance.

Having a little fun with a gargoyle/rain-gutter...or whatever you'd call that guy.

That "fishwich" looks good enough to...take a picture of and keep on walking. No thank you.

I wondered how we could get someone to take us for a spin on this thing.

We stepped into an outdoor store to look for a wooden sled. We found this climbing wall to play on as well. Sadie was a natural!

I will miss the day when the signs we come across are no longer in German. Sure, understanding everything around you has its perks, but I just love living here.

They also had this fun swing/hammock that the kids all loved. Here is Emmett giving his flirty smile. He's got it down to an art.

It took about three seconds for the kids to fall in love with Grammy's Kindle Fire. How they learn how to play it so quickly is beyond me.

Concentrating so hard. Hoping he'll never be asked to turn it off, I'm sure.

It was just the beginning of a lot of fun.
