Gingerbread houses

My mom is an expert gingerbread house maker. I'm pretty sure she even took a class on it. They always turn out beautifully, although I joke with her that the candy she uses (that Brach's brand of ribbons, Arabian Night's mix, etc.) is less than desirable when it comes to eating. This year she had several grandchildren coming over and decided to go the graham cracker route instead of making the gingerbread from scratch. And somehow we had all kinds of chocolate yummy candy to go on top. Basically, we broke all the traditional gingerbread house rules this year.

Canon took one look at the table full of candy and neeeeded to climb over to it. With as much time as Canon spent climbing all over the table, day and night, cousins Ashlee and Brynlee probably left thinking he was pretty crazy.

Here is Sadie with her "Arizona style" flat top house. Her first house had some structural issues so we decided to simplify the design.

Ashlee's creative juices were flowing...she made the cutest little Santa out of a gingerbread man.

Brynlee's house ended up with a garden of M&Ms on the side. Clever.

Kirsten's boys also made houses, and when they were all done my mom had the cutest idea to make a little gingerbread house village as the dining room table centerpiece. Even Sadie's house that looks like an earthquake rumbled under it got to be included. Fun fun.

Who'd a thought a flat roofed house would look so good :)

PB cups, mini oreos, candycane kisses...yep, so much better than brach's, although those round candies with the pink outside and flower looking design in the middle were my favorites or the tiny pillow looking ones.

tell sadie i made a flat roofed one two years ago and last year my house was just 2-dimensional :). What a fun activity with cousins! I'm surprised so much candy ended up on the houses anyway with that selection...I would have eaten most of it.
